Author: camomile_tea / Rating: PG / Length: 2,303 words

Summary: Her teenage rebellion had been but fleeting...a small burst of defiance like a firework, quick and bright. At least she had a story to tell, a story of first love to tell her friends with a wistful smile and a sigh. Because for those twelve months she knew what it was to love, to be brave. To fight and win.

A/N: Written for the first challenge, which is still open I understand. This was inspired by one of the photographs but while I was writing it I managed to include the quote, albeit altered slightly. I hope that's okay.

Time for challenge number two! Remember, though; challenge number one is still open.

001. The writing style is original fiction (but kind of fanfic).
002. The prompt is adaptation of a Disney classic. This prompt was suggested by inksplotched
002a. This prompt is similar to what is called "fractured fairy tales". You take a story (in this case, a Disney movie) and change something about it (gender swapping, change of setting, addition of a darker tone, satirical take on the story, etc). But they must be written based on a Disney movie.(Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Bambi, Pinocchio, etc).
002b. Though this should mainly be Disney movies, we will also allow other non-Disney cartoon movies (they must be classics, though such as Thumbelina, The Swan Princess, A Troll In Central Park, Anastasia, etc.)
003. Tag your posts with author: your username, challenge #2 and movie: name of the movie. (IE: author:worthless_hope, challenge #2, movie: sleeping beauty.)
004. (This is the most important) -- HAVE FUN WITH THIS.

Silence passes between them that is simultaneously short and long; she measures it in how gauzy the clouds grow before one of them speaks again. “We need to do something funny.”

For some reason, that in itself is pretty funny, and Margaret smiles. “Why?”

“Because you’ll laugh,” he says. “A
lot. Until you cry, probably.”

Margaret would offer another simple “why,” but Irina wants to know, “You want to see me laugh?”

“Maybe I want to see you cry.”

written for challenge #1 - "take my hand," she says, "and we'll fly to the stars."

author's note: The title is one of my favourite lines from Richard Siken's poem, Scheherazade. Also, thanks to fiddlings for being my muse/the person I bitch to and for coming up with the main character's name, and to inksplotched for reading it over for me.

She's twenty-two and on top of the world (great boyfriend, steady job, rent-controlled apartment on the Upper East Side) when it all crashes down on her head.

It has been brought to our attention that this community, by offering creative non-fiction and poetry challenges, may wind up taking members/attention away from the communities intoevenings (creative non-fiction) and nexttoyourbones (poetry), which also issue challenges. These communities are wonderful, and that would be the last thing we would want to do.

Because of this, we will no longer be offering creative non-fiction and poetry challenges.

From now on, this will be an original fic-centric challenge community.

However, we are still considering doing occasional fan fiction challenges (possibly once a month or so).

If you could fill out the poll to aid us in making this decision, that would be much appreciated.

Should we still issue occasional fanfiction challenges?

Yes. I would like to keep the fanfiction challenges around, even they won't be the main focus of the community.
No. I would prefer it if this were strictly an original fiction challenge community.
I have no preference; either way is fine.
